Jitendra Khakre, who posed as a doctor at Baitul district hospital, was arrested for extorting families of expectant mothers by demanding extra fees for "better treatment" and cesarean sections, allegedly charging between ₹3,000 and ₹5,000 online.
Jitendra Khakre was taken into custody by the Baitul district police on Thursday after reports surfaced that he had been impersonating a medical professional at the local hospital.
According to investigators, Khakre demanded payments ranging from ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 from relatives of pregnant women, claiming that the money was required for "enhanced care" and emergency cesarean sections. The charges were collected through online payment platforms.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the arrest was part of a broader crackdown on medical fraud in the region, stating that the officer had been monitoring suspicious activity at the hospital for several weeks.
The incident has raised concerns among local residents about the safety of maternity services and prompted the hospital administration to review its staff verification procedures.
