Lufthansa will require passengers to provide a travel identification number when checking in online, a rule that will apply to bookings made with seven of its partner carriers.

Lufthansa announced that a travel identification number will become mandatory for all passengers completing online check‑in. The requirement will be enforced across seven airlines that operate under Lufthansa’s partnership network, affecting any booking made through these carriers.
The move is aimed at strengthening security protocols and simplifying passenger verification ahead of boarding. By standardising the ID requirement, the airline group hopes to reduce manual checks at the airport and align with broader European aviation safety standards.
Travelers will now be prompted to enter their travel ID during the online check‑in process; failure to provide the number could result in the inability to complete the check‑in or a need to re‑verify at the airport. Lufthansa has advised customers to have the required identification ready before attempting online check‑in.
The policy was reported by Onmanorama, and while the airline has not disclosed the exact rollout date, it indicated that the change will be implemented in the coming weeks across all affected partners.
