Late Saturday night, students at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Jalandhar gathered following unverified reports of a sexual assault on a female student.
The demonstration quickly turned violent, with participants damaging university property and setting fires in several locations on campus.
Protesters also blocked the Amritsar‑Delhi national highway, causing significant traffic disruption for several hours.
