Lokayukta officials raided the Ujjain collectorate and detained an Assistant Grade‑3 employee of the ADM office for accepting a Rs 20,000 bribe linked to alleged fraud in the PM Ujjwala gas‑connection scheme.
The Lokayukta’s anti‑corruption team conducted a surprise raid at the Ujjain collectorate on Thursday, targeting the office of the Additional District Magistrate (ADM). Officers entered the premises with a search warrant and began a systematic sweep of documents and computer systems.
During the operation, a Grade‑3 assistant employed in the ADM office was caught with cash amounting to Rs 20,000. The official was apprehended on the spot after investigators found the money in his possession, indicating a direct bribe payment.
Police officials said the arrest stems from a complaint alleging fraudulent practices in the allocation of gas connections under the Prime Minister’s Ujjwala Yojana. The scheme, which aims to provide LPG connections to poor households, has been under scrutiny after reports of irregularities in beneficiary selection. The detained employee is suspected of facilitating illegal connections in exchange for cash.
The Lokayukta has lodged a formal case against the accused and forwarded the matter to the district police for further investigation. The agency reiterated its commitment to curbing corruption in the implementation of central welfare programmes.
Authorities have not disclosed whether any other officials were involved, and the investigation remains ongoing.
