The Tripura government says livestock farming is generating new livelihood opportunities for young people and women in the state, according to the minister.

Kailash Chandra Dutta, the state minister for Animal Husbandry, told India Today NE that the expansion of livestock farming is directly translating into income sources for Tripura's youth and women. Recent initiatives have focused on setting up small‑scale dairy units, goat rearing projects and training programmes that equip participants with modern animal‑care techniques.

The minister highlighted that government subsidies, low‑interest credit and market linkages are encouraging more families to adopt animal husbandry as a viable occupation. As a result, several villages have reported an increase in household earnings and a reduction in seasonal migration.

Officials said the scheme also aims to improve nutrition and empower women by giving them control over productive assets. Ongoing monitoring will track the number of beneficiaries and the sustainability of the livestock enterprises.

The state plans to replicate the model in additional districts, leveraging existing veterinary infrastructure to ensure animal health and disease control. If successful, the initiative could serve as a template for other northeastern states seeking to combine agricultural development with employment generation.
