The Union Law Ministry announced new rules that will allow the National Tribunals Commission to appoint chairpersons and members to 16 tribunals and appellate bodies uniformly.

The Union Law Ministry said it has drafted a comprehensive set of rules to bring uniformity to the appointment process for heads and members of various tribunals. Under the new framework, the recently established National Tribunals Commission will be empowered to select chairpersons and members for a total of 16 tribunals and appellate bodies across the country. The ministry highlighted that the rules aim to ensure transparent, merit‑based selections and to curb procedural delays in quasi‑judicial institutions. It added that the draft will be notified shortly, with a window for stakeholder feedback before final adoption. Legal analysts view the step as a significant move toward strengthening the credibility and efficiency of India's tribunal system.
