The 23‑year‑old tigress Mahak, the oldest in India, has been taken out of the display area at Abheda Biological Park in Kota after developing hind‑leg weakness.

Abheda Biological Park in Kota has removed Mahak, a 23‑year‑old tigress who holds the record as the oldest tiger in the country, from its public display area. Veterinary staff observed a gradual loss of strength in her hind legs, making it difficult for her to move normally.

The park’s management said the decision was taken to ensure the animal’s comfort and to prevent further strain on her weakened limbs. Mahak will now be kept in a quieter enclosure where she can receive specialized care and monitoring.

Officials emphasized that the tigress’s age, now 23 years and two months, is exceptional for the species, and they are closely tracking her health to provide appropriate support as she ages.

No other tigers in the park are reported to have similar health issues, and the facility continues its conservation and educational programs for visitors, albeit with Mahak no longer on public view.
