Kota municipal contractor arrested for Rs 10,000 bribe over PM housing scheme instalment

The Anti‑Corruption Bureau detained Akhilesh Meena, a contract worker of Kota Municipal Corporation, for allegedly accepting a ₹10,000 bribe to secure the next instalment of the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme. His accomplice, Naresh Verma, who demanded ₹5,000, fled the scene.
Kota, Rajasthan – The Anti‑Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Akhilesh Meena, a contract employee of the Kota Municipal Corporation, on suspicion of taking a bribe to facilitate the approval of the next instalment of the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme.
According to the ACB, Meena allegedly demanded and received ₹10,000 from a beneficiary who sought the scheme's disbursement. The payment was presented as a condition for the municipal authority to process the instalment.
During the same operation, another contractor, Naresh Verma, attempted to extract an additional ₹5,000. When confronted, Verma fled the premises and remains at large.
The ACB said the case underscores its continued focus on curbing corruption in the implementation of government welfare programmes, and investigations are ongoing to identify any further participants.
