The traditional ceramics of Khurja are being promoted through the One District One Product scheme, helping artisans tap into export markets.

Khurja, a historic town in Uttar Pradesh known for its centuries‑old ceramic tradition, has been spotlighted under the central government's One District One Product (ODOP) programme. The scheme aims to showcase a unique product from each district, providing financial, technical and marketing assistance to local manufacturers.

Under the latest ODOP drive, state officials partnered with the Khurja Handicrafts Development Board to upgrade kiln technology, introduce contemporary designs and facilitate participation in international trade fairs. Export‑oriented clusters have been set up, and several orders have already been secured from buyers in the Middle East, Europe and North America.

The initiative is expected to boost incomes for the town's artisans, many of whom rely on family‑run workshops. Officials project a 30‑40% rise in export earnings over the next year, while training programmes aim to preserve the traditional craftsmanship that defines Khurja pottery.

Industry analysts view the ODOP push as a model for other Indian craft clusters, noting that linking heritage products to global supply chains can create sustainable livelihoods and enhance India's cultural brand abroad.
