The 2026 Kerala School Games saw a wave of new champions and record-breaking performances, but the event was also marred by controversies over judging and eligibility. The competition, held across several venues in Kerala, highlighted the growing talent pool in school sports.
The 2026 Kerala School Games concluded with a series of remarkable victories, as several schools claimed titles across athletics, football, and swimming events. In athletics, a 14‑year‑old sprinter from Ernakulam shattered the 100‑meter record, clocking 11.12 seconds, while a junior swimmer from Thiruvananthapuram set a new state record in the 200‑meter freestyle.
Despite the celebratory atmosphere, the event faced criticism over judging inconsistencies and questions about the eligibility of certain participants. Several parents and coaches lodged formal complaints, alleging that some athletes had not met the age verification requirements set by the Kerala School Sports Council.
Officials from the council have pledged a thorough review of the judging panels and the eligibility verification process. They also announced plans to introduce stricter oversight mechanisms for future editions of the games, aiming to preserve the integrity of school sports in the state.
