Kerala Police File FIR Against Fake Social Media Profiles Impersonating IAS Officer

Kerala police have lodged a formal complaint after discovering several fake social media accounts created in the name of a senior IAS officer.
Police in Kerala recently filed a First Information Report after identifying multiple fraudulent social media profiles that falsely bore the name of an Indian Administrative Service officer. The investigation was triggered when users reported that the accounts were posting misleading content and claiming official authority.
According to the police, the counterfeit profiles were spread across popular platforms and were being used to circulate misinformation and solicit personal details from the public. Officials said the impersonation could damage the reputation of the officer and erode trust in genuine government communications.
Law enforcement has notified the relevant social media companies and is seeking the removal of the fake accounts. The FIR cites provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code that penalise identity theft and the creation of false online identities.
The IAS officer in question has not made any public comment, and the police have urged citizens to verify the authenticity of any government‑related social media page before engaging with it.
