The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has placed nine districts under a yellow alert as a weather system is expected to bring heavy rainfall across the state.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDA) announced that nine districts—Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Idukki, Wayanad, and Kannur—are now under a yellow alert.
The alert comes after meteorological reports indicate that a low‑pressure system will bring heavy rainfall to the region. Residents in the affected districts are advised to stay alert and prepare for possible flooding.
Yellow alerts are the second level of warning, signalling that the weather system could produce heavy showers and that precautionary measures should be taken. The KSDA has urged local authorities to ensure that evacuation plans are ready and that essential services remain operational.
The weather system is expected to move across Kerala over the next 48 hours, with rainfall intensities peaking in the high‑altitude districts. Authorities have also requested that the public avoid unnecessary travel and keep emergency contacts handy.
