Kaveri water dispute: Karnataka gets relief as CWRC orders release of 3,000 cusecs from Tamil Nadu
The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee has ordered Tamil Nadu to release 3,000 cusecs of water to Karnataka from October 24, easing the state's drought situation.
The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) issued an order on October 24 directing Tamil Nadu to release 3,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) of water to Karnataka, a significant reduction from earlier demands.
The decision follows Tamil Nadu's push for a larger water release, but the CWRC took Karnataka's severe drought conditions into account before setting the lower quota.
The limited release is expected to provide much‑needed relief to Karnataka's irrigation zones and drinking water supplies, which have been under strain for months.
State officials said the order will be implemented immediately and will be reviewed periodically based on water levels and agricultural needs.
The move is viewed as a step towards easing the long‑standing Kaveri water dispute between the two neighboring states.
