A resident of Katni, Madhya Pradesh, was duped by callers claiming to be from Pakistan and promised a $4 million payout, resulting in a loss of about ₹1.6 lakh.
A woman from Katni in Madhya Pradesh reported that she was targeted by a cyber fraud scheme that began with phone calls and messages from a Pakistani number. The fraudsters claimed they could secure a $4 million transfer for her, urging her to pay processing fees in installments.
The scam demanded separate payments, and the victim eventually transferred roughly ₹1.60 lakh in small sums as instructed. The promised foreign funds never materialised, and the woman realised she had been deceived.
Upon discovering the fraud, she lodged a formal complaint with the Katni police, seeking investigation and action against the perpetrators. Authorities have been alerted to the cross‑border nature of the scam and are expected to trace the originating number.
The incident highlights the growing prevalence of overseas‑based cyber scams that exploit promises of large foreign payouts to extract modest sums from unsuspecting Indian citizens.
