During a recent Katni Nagar Nigam meeting, officials highlighted that the local MP and deputy commissioner have pending water bills amounting to lakhs, while ordinary citizens remain neglected.
The Katni Municipal Corporation convened a session in which the issue of unpaid water charges was prominently discussed. Representatives pointed out that the municipal water department has not received payments from the sitting Member of Parliament and the Deputy Commissioner, both of whom owe amounts running into several lakhs.
Council members emphasized that while the common populace continues to face service challenges, senior officials remain exempt from financial accountability. The disparity, they argued, undermines public trust in local governance and hampers the corporation's ability to fund essential infrastructure.
The meeting concluded with a call for immediate settlement of the pending dues and a recommendation that future billing procedures treat all consumers, irrespective of position, uniformly. No specific deadline was set, but officials indicated that the corporation will pursue legal and administrative measures if the arrears persist.
