The Karnataka government announced that it will organise the inaugural Urdu Habba at the state legislature building, Vidhana Soudha, marking a new outreach effort for the Urdu‑speaking community.
Bengaluru, Karnataka – The state government has confirmed that the first Urdu Habba will be held at Vidhana Soudha, the iconic legislative complex in Bengaluru. The cultural programme aims to promote the Urdu language and celebrate its literary heritage among Karnataka's diverse population.
The event follows a similar outreach initiative for the Tulu language, reflecting the administration's broader policy to engage linguistic minorities. Officials said the Habba will feature poetry recitals, folk performances and discussions with scholars, all designed to foster greater appreciation of Urdu.
The government has invited community leaders, educators and cultural activists to participate, and has pledged logistical support to ensure smooth conduct of the festivities. The date and detailed schedule will be released in the coming days.
By hosting the Urdu Habba at the heart of the state's political hub, Karnataka signals its commitment to inclusive cultural policies and aims to strengthen social cohesion across language groups.
