Karnataka celebrates its formation day, Rajyotsava, on November 1, 2026, commemorating the state's birth in 1956.
Karnataka observed Rajyotsava on November 1, 2026, marking the day the state was officially formed under the States Reorganisation Act of 1956. The legislation merged the Kannada-speaking regions of the former Mysore State with adjoining territories, creating a unified linguistic state.
The day is widely celebrated across the state with cultural programmes, flag hoisting at government offices, and the lighting of public spaces in the state flag's red and yellow. Schools and institutions often organize competitions and performances that showcase Karnataka's heritage.
Social media platforms saw a surge in wishes and specially crafted WhatsApp status messages, as residents shared greetings in both Kannada and English. The Economic Times highlighted the historical significance and the contemporary ways people express pride on this occasion.
Local authorities also used the occasion to launch brief messages on development initiatives, though the primary focus remained on honoring the state's linguistic and cultural identity.
