Karnataka Prioritises Integrated Maritime Development Over Traditional Ports

The state government of Karnataka has signalled a strategic pivot in its coastal infrastructure policy, moving away from conventional port expansion toward a broader integrated maritime development approach.

The revised focus seeks to build a coordinated ecosystem that links ports, logistics, shipbuilding and related services, with the aim of boosting trade, attracting investment and generating employment along the coastline.

Officials indicated that the plan will involve modernising existing facilities, enhancing connectivity and encouraging private‑sector participation, positioning Karnataka as a key maritime hub in the region.
