The state’s horticulture department will provide special financial incentives to farmers cultivating water‑efficient millets such as ragi, navane and sambe.

The Karnataka government has introduced a dedicated millet promotion scheme aimed at supporting farmers who grow low‑water, high‑yield millets. The initiative focuses on crops such as ragi, navane and sambe, which require less irrigation while delivering substantial produce.

Under the scheme, the state horticulture department will allocate special incentive funds to eligible cultivators of these millets. The financial assistance is intended to offset input costs and encourage wider adoption of water‑saving agricultural practices.

Farmers interested in the programme must apply through the department’s established channels and meet criteria related to the acreage and type of millet cultivated. Once approved, the incentive will be disbursed directly to the beneficiaries.

The government expects the scheme to boost millet production, improve farmer incomes, and contribute to Karnataka’s broader goals of sustainable agriculture and water conservation.
