The Karnataka IT and BT department has initiated the establishment of two new Global Technology Centers (GTC) in North Karnataka, marking a significant step to expand the state's IT industry beyond Bangalore.
The proposed GTCs are envisioned as large‑scale technology hubs that will host multinational firms and provide a platform for local talent, according to the department's plan.
The initiative forms part of the government's broader strategy to decentralise IT growth, generate employment and stimulate economic development in the northern districts of Karnataka.
