The Governor of Karnataka has formally approved the Apartment Ownership Act, clearing the way for its implementation across the state.

Bengaluru, Oct 16 — The Governor of Karnataka has signed the Apartment Ownership Act, giving it final legislative approval. The act, passed by the state assembly earlier this year, aims to streamline ownership rights, registration procedures and dispute resolution for flat owners and builders.

Under the new law, apartment owners will be able to obtain a single, consolidated title deed, reducing the complexities that have long plagued multi‑unit properties. The legislation also introduces a mandatory registration process for societies and sets up a dedicated appellate tribunal to address ownership disputes.

State officials said the act will boost confidence among homebuyers and developers, potentially encouraging further investment in the real‑estate sector. The Governor's assent marks the final step before the act comes into force, expected to be operational from the next fiscal year.

The move has been welcomed by consumer groups, who view the streamlined framework as a long‑awaited reform to protect buyers' interests and ensure transparent management of apartment complexes.

The Karnataka government will now issue detailed guidelines to implement the provisions and train officials responsible for registration and dispute resolution.
