Karnataka denies GST-link rumor, assures no Rs 2,000 deduction from Grihalakshmi scheme
The Women and Child Welfare Department clarified that linking women’s bank accounts with GST numbers will not lead to any deduction from the Grihalakshmi scheme, debunking a viral social‑media claim.
Karnataka's government has dismissed a social media rumor that linking women’s bank accounts with a GST number would result in a Rs 2,000 deduction from the Grihalakshmi scheme.
The claim, which circulated widely online, suggested that the Grihalakshmi scheme – a welfare program for women – would automatically deduct Rs 2,000 from beneficiaries’ accounts if a GST identification number was linked.
The Women and Child Welfare Department issued a statement clarifying that no such deduction will occur and that the scheme’s benefits remain unchanged irrespective of GST linkage.
Officials urged the public to rely on official communications and warned against spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic among beneficiaries.
