The Karnataka School Examination Board has announced that all SSLC candidates must obtain PEN and APAAR digital IDs to ensure a more transparent and digitized examination system.

The Karnataka School Examination Board (KSEB) has issued a directive requiring all students appearing for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination to possess both a Personal Education Number (PEN) and an APAAR digital identity.

The move aims to enhance transparency, reduce fraud, and streamline the examination process by leveraging digital verification. The PEN is a unique identifier assigned to each student, while APAAR is a government‑issued digital ID that links biometric and demographic data.

The board has instructed schools to facilitate the registration of students for these IDs before the upcoming exam cycle. Candidates who fail to present the required IDs may be barred from appearing for the exam.

Officials said the initiative aligns with the state’s broader push toward digital governance and will be monitored for compliance. Parents and students are advised to complete the registration promptly.

The decision follows similar digital initiatives in other educational boards across India.
