The traditional buffalo race, Kambala, is set to make its first appearance during the Mysuru Dasara celebrations, promising a thrilling spectacle for festival-goers.
Kambala, a centuries‑old buffalo race traditionally held in the coastal districts of Karnataka, will for the first time be staged as part of the Mysuru Dasara celebrations. The event is scheduled to take place on the Dasara grounds, where teams of trained buffaloes will sprint across a muddy track in a display of speed and agility.
Organisers say the inclusion of Kambala aims to enrich the festival’s cultural tapestry and attract a wider audience. The race, which has long been a rural pastime, is expected to draw both local spectators and tourists, boosting the city’s hospitality sector.
Officials have assured that safety measures will be in place for both animals and participants. The debut of Kambala at Mysuru Dasara marks a significant expansion of the festival’s activities, blending traditional sport with the grand pageantry of Dussehra.
The event is part of a broader effort to showcase Karnataka’s diverse heritage during the 2024 Dasara celebrations, which feature processions, cultural performances, and various community events.
