Justice Balbir Singh Chauhan Appointed as Chair of Manipur Violence Inquiry

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced that Justice Balbir Singh Chauhan, former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, will head the inquiry commission into the violence that erupted in Manipur last month. The commission, established under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, is tasked with collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses and recommending measures to restore peace. The government expects the report to be submitted within 90 days of the commission's formation. Justice Chauhan's appointment follows the resignation of the previous chair, who stepped down amid concerns over the probe's impartiality.
