The Jammu and Kashmir Staff Association has appealed to the Lieutenant Governor, seeking a relaxation of the bank’s upper age limit for recruitment to 40 years.

The Jammu and Kashmir Staff Association (JKSA) formally wrote to the Lieutenant Governor, requesting his intervention in the recruitment policy of J&K Bank. The association argues that the current upper age limit restricts a large pool of qualified candidates, especially those with extensive experience in the banking sector.

JKSA’s petition highlights that many eligible professionals are being excluded because they exceed the existing age ceiling. By raising the limit to 40 years, the association believes the bank can attract a broader talent base and address staffing shortages in its branches across the Union Territory.

The appeal comes at a time when J&K Bank is expanding its operations and seeking to fill numerous vacancies. The Lieutenant Governor’s response will determine whether the age criteria will be revised before the next recruitment cycle.

No official comment has been received from the bank or the Lieutenant Governor’s office as of now. The JKSA has indicated it will continue to press for the change, emphasizing the potential benefits for both the institution and job seekers.

Stakeholders are awaiting a decision, which could set a precedent for recruitment norms in other public sector banks operating in the region.
