The Jammu and Kashmir police chief announced plans to intensify anti‑drug operations across the union territory.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Jammu and Kashmir announced that the force will step up its anti‑drug drive, citing a rise in narcotics-related incidents in recent months. The decision follows intelligence inputs indicating increased trafficking through border districts and urban hotspots.

The intensified operation will feature more frequent patrols, targeted raids on suspected drug dens, and closer coordination with customs, health and rehabilitation agencies. Special task units will be deployed in areas identified as high‑risk, and seizure targets will be expanded.

Police officials noted that recent seizures have already disrupted several supply chains, but the new measures aim to curb both supply and demand. The IGP emphasized that the police will also focus on preventive outreach, especially among youth, and warned that offenders will face strict penalties under the NDPS Act.

Community participation is being solicited, with authorities urging residents to report suspicious activities. The police have set up a dedicated helpline to facilitate anonymous tips and promise swift action on credible leads.
