The Jammu and Kashmir Directorate of Youth Services and Sports has directed the detachment of PEM and the deployment of Physical Education Teachers with the state Sports Council.
The Jammu and Kashmir Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) issued an administrative order to detach the PEM unit and assign Physical Education Teachers (PETs) to work directly with the state Sports Council. The directive, released earlier this week, aims to streamline the coordination between educational and sports authorities in the union territory.
According to the order, the PEM (Physical Education Management) staff will be reassigned to focus on specialized training programs, while PETs will be embedded within the Sports Council to support grassroots coaching, talent identification and implementation of state‑wide sports initiatives. Officials indicated that the move is intended to enhance the efficiency of sports development schemes and improve the delivery of physical education in schools.
The DYSS has asked the concerned departments to complete the reallocation process within the next thirty days and to submit progress reports to the Chief Secretary. The Sports Council is expected to integrate the newly deployed PETs into its existing coaching infrastructure, thereby strengthening the pipeline of athletes for upcoming national competitions.
