Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan – Police have opened an investigation after a 30-year-old woman with mental health issues was allegedly subjected to sexual assault, physical abuse and forced bonded labour at the Maa Seva Sansthan mental health home in the Adarsh Nagar locality of Pratappura.
The victim, who was admitted for treatment, reportedly faced repeated rapes and beatings by the home’s operator and his wife, who also compelled her to perform menial tasks without remuneration, according to the FIR filed by the victim’s relatives.
Local authorities have registered a criminal case under sections relating to rape, assault and bonded labour, and have taken the accused into custody for further interrogation.
Officials from the district administration said the case underscores the need for stricter monitoring of private mental health facilities to safeguard vulnerable patients.
