The upcoming Jewar airport, located close to Noida in Uttar Pradesh, will be christened Narendra Modi International Airport, officials announced.
New Delhi – Authorities have confirmed that the green‑field airport being built at Jewar, on the outskirts of Noida in Uttar Pradesh, will be officially named Narendra Modi International Airport. The decision was disclosed in a statement released by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, marking the airport’s formal identity before its commercial launch.
The naming honors Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reflecting his government’s emphasis on expanding aviation infrastructure in the National Capital Region. While naming public facilities after sitting leaders is uncommon, officials said the move underscores the strategic importance of the new hub.
Once operational, the airport is expected to complement Indira Gandhi International Airport, easing passenger traffic and boosting regional connectivity for the Delhi‑NCR belt. The designation is part of broader efforts to position the region as a major air travel gateway.
