The Janata Dal United clarified it will not implement a Uniform Civil Code in Bihar, even as it voted for the legislation in the Lok Sabha.

The Janata Dal United (JD(U)) has publicly ruled out the introduction of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Bihar. While the party has consistently backed the central government's UCC Bill in parliamentary debates, its state leadership says the measure is not suitable for Bihar's diverse social landscape.

A JD(U) spokesperson reiterated that the party's support for the Bill in the Lok Sabha reflects its commitment to national legislation, but emphasized that any implementation at the state level must consider local customs and community sentiments. The statement came after media reports suggested the party might push for a UCC in the state.

Political analysts note that the clarification aims to balance the party's alliance with the central government and the sensitivities of Bihar's electorate, where religious and personal law issues remain contentious. The stance may also influence upcoming state elections, as opposition parties are likely to highlight the discrepancy between parliamentary support and state-level reluctance.
