MLA Anant Singh was expelled from the Janata Dal (United) and responded by asserting that the party’s relevance has ended with Nitish Kumar’s departure.
Bihar’s Janata Dal (United) expelled legislator Anant Singh on Wednesday, citing alleged anti‑party activities. Singh, who represents his constituency, issued a terse statement on social media, declaring, “Nitish Kumar is gone, so is JDU.”
The expulsion follows a period of internal friction within the JDU after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced his resignation from the party’s leadership earlier this month. Kumar, who has steered the party for over two decades, remains a dominant figure in Bihar politics.
Party spokespersons declined to comment on Singh’s specific allegations, noting that disciplinary actions are taken in accordance with the party’s constitution. Analysts suggest the episode underscores growing factionalism as the JDU navigates a leadership transition.
Observers say the development could reshape alliances ahead of the upcoming state elections, though the immediate impact on the party’s legislative strength appears limited.
