Japan emerged as the largest source of foreign direct investment into India during the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, contributing $5.71 billion. The inflow surpassed all other countries in the period.

According to data reported by ET Government, Japan topped the list of foreign direct investment sources for India in Q1 FY27. The total inflow from Japan amounted to $5.71 billion during this three-month period. This positions Japan ahead of other traditional investors such as Singapore, the United States and the Netherlands. The figures reflect continued confidence of Japanese companies in India's growth prospects and business environment. Analysts note that the surge is driven by investments in manufacturing, technology and services sectors. The inflow underscores the strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
