The J&K health department has inaugurated JOSH mobile teams and a tuberculosis awareness campaign in Poonch district to strengthen disease surveillance and community outreach.
The health authorities of Jammu and Kashmir announced the launch of JOSH (Joint Operational Support for Health) teams in the Poonch district, together with a dedicated tuberculosis awareness programme. JOSH teams are mobile health units intended to provide rapid medical assistance, conduct screenings and facilitate referrals in the state's remote and hilly areas. The TB awareness drive aims to educate residents about symptoms, testing and treatment, aligning with national TB elimination targets. The Directorate of Health Services will coordinate field staff deployment to villages, schools and public gatherings, distributing IEC material in local languages and training community health workers to spot suspected cases. Officials expect the combined effort to improve early detection of tuberculosis, curb transmission and broaden healthcare access in the border district, which has long faced logistical challenges.
