The Punjab municipal authority in Jalandhar has limited the permissible window for bursting firecrackers on Diwali to two hours, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The decision aims to curb noise and pollution while ensuring public safety.
The Jalandhar Municipal Corporation announced that residents may set off firecrackers only between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on the evening of Diwali. The restriction, issued through an official circular, applies to all residential and commercial areas within the city limits.
Authorities said the two‑hour window balances traditional celebrations with concerns over excessive noise, air quality deterioration, and the risk of fire incidents. Enforcement teams will monitor compliance and impose penalties on violators, according to the notice.
The move aligns with similar time‑bound firecracker bans adopted by other North Indian cities in recent years, reflecting growing pressure to mitigate the environmental impact of the festival while respecting cultural practices.
