A man posing as a foreign woman on Facebook duped a Jaipur resident of Rs 22 lakh using false job offers and counterfeit customs documents, and police have arrested the suspect in Gurugram.
Police in Rajasthan say a resident of Jaipur was lured on Facebook by a profile that claimed to be a foreign woman seeking friendship and promising overseas employment. The fraudster presented fabricated customs clearance documents to convince the victim that a lucrative job abroad was secured, and subsequently extracted a total of Rs 22 lakh from him.
Investigators traced the digital trail to a suspect residing in Gurugram. On the basis of electronic evidence and victim testimony, the Gurugram police detained the individual earlier this week and handed him over to Rajasthan authorities for further questioning.
The cyber crime unit of Jaipur police emphasized that such scams exploit social media trust and warned the public to verify identities and avoid transferring money based on unverifiable promises. The case is being processed under sections of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code, with the investigation ongoing.
