A prisoner in Raisen district jail shot a duty guard with a homemade stick on Wednesday, leading to the suspension of the acting jail superintendent.

On Wednesday morning a prisoner at the district jail in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, used a homemade wooden stick to fire a shot at a guard on duty, injuring him. The incident prompted immediate action by prison authorities; the acting superintendent, Chaurey, was suspended pending investigation. Officials have not yet explained how the weapon, described as a locally made stick, reached the inmate inside the high‑security facility, and a probe is underway to determine lapses in security protocols. The injured guard was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and the prisoner has been placed in solitary confinement pending further inquiry.
