The Jabalpur (JP) hospital now requires a consulting specialist’s verification, signature and seal before issuing X‑ray, CT scan or MRI requests, aiming to curb unnecessary costly investigations.
Jabalpur's JP Hospital has introduced a new protocol that obliges the ordering physician to obtain a specialist’s verification, signature and official seal before any X‑ray, CT scan or MRI can be performed. The directive, announced by hospital management, applies to all radiological investigations across its facilities.
The move is intended to curb the rise of unnecessary and expensive imaging tests, which have been putting pressure on both patients’ finances and the hospital’s capacity. By ensuring that a qualified specialist reviews each request, the administration hopes to prioritize clinically essential scans and reduce patient crowding in radiology departments.
Hospital officials said the policy will also help streamline workflow, as fewer redundant scans are expected to free up equipment for genuine cases. While patients may experience a slightly longer approval process, the administration believes the benefits of cost‑effective care and reduced wait times will outweigh the inconvenience.
