The Indian Premier League’s proposed Impact Player rule, which limits the number of foreign players in a match, has drawn attention from players who could gain more opportunities if the rule were scrapped. Experts highlight Washington Sundar, Rahul Tewatia, and three others as potential beneficiaries.

India’s premier T20 league has introduced an Impact Player rule that limits the number of overseas players a team can field in a match. The rule, designed to give domestic talent more exposure, has sparked debate among players and analysts.

Washington Sundar, a left‑arm spinner from Karnataka, has said the rule limits his chances to play against top international teams. Rahul Tewatia, the Mumbai Indians’ all‑rounder, and three other domestic players have also expressed that abolishing the rule would allow them to feature more regularly.

If the rule is removed, teams could rely on a broader pool of local talent, potentially raising the competitive standard of the league. Analysts say the change could also influence team strategies and player development pathways across the country.
