The primary Indore‑Dewas route has been shut for a month to build the Dewas Naka overbridge, causing severe congestion for thousands of drivers despite 25 staff managing traffic round‑the‑clock.
The main arterial road linking Indore with the industrial town of Dewas was closed on Monday as construction of the Dewas Naka overbridge began. Officials have announced a one‑month shutdown to complete the structure, which is expected to ease traffic in the long term.
The sudden closure has forced thousands of private and commercial vehicles onto alternate streets, creating long queues at key intersections. Motorists report waiting periods of up to two hours during peak hours, turning the usual commute into a protracted ordeal.
To mitigate the disruption, the Indore Municipal Corporation deployed a team of 25 traffic personnel who operate in shifts, monitoring the flow day and night. Their duties include directing vehicles, managing signal timings and clearing stalled traffic.
Authorities have advised commuters to use the peripheral routes via Rau and Manglia, or to postpone non‑essential trips until the overbridge work is completed. No further extensions to the closure period have been announced at this stage.
