The second three‑lane arm of the double‑decker bridge on the Indore‑Ujjain highway will be opened to traffic next week, promising smoother flow for more than 70,000 vehicles daily.
The Madhya Pradesh Road Development Authority announced that the third‑lane extension on the second side of the double‑decker bridge along the Indore‑Ujjain corridor will be opened to traffic next week. This addition completes the bridge’s twin‑span configuration, which was designed to accommodate the growing vehicular load on the busy route.
Once both spans are operational, the bridge will carry three lanes in each direction, allowing more than 70,000 vehicles to cross the river daily without the current bottlenecks. Commuters and freight operators are expected to experience a noticeable reduction in travel time, especially during peak hours.
The first span of the double‑decker bridge was inaugurated earlier this year, providing immediate relief to a portion of the traffic. The new lane opening builds on that progress, aiming to fully realize the project's goal of a seamless, high‑capacity corridor between Indore and Ujjain.
Officials indicated that the bridge’s design also improves safety by separating heavy trucks from lighter vehicles on different levels, and they plan to monitor traffic patterns closely to assess the impact of the new lanes.
