Facing a deepening water shortage due to low rainfall, Indore’s municipal corporation is deploying 300 tankers and plans to commission five new 30‑million‑litre‑per‑day storage tanks by December.

The city of Indore is grappling with an acute water crisis as monsoon rains have fallen well below normal levels, prompting the municipal corporation to rely on a fleet of 300 water tankers to meet daily demand. Mayor Pushyam Priyadarshi convened an emergency review meeting to assess the situation and chart immediate remedial actions. The council approved the installation of five new storage tanks, each capable of holding up to 30 million litres per day, with a target completion date in December. These tanks are expected to create a strategic reserve that can cushion the city against future shortfalls. The mayor also ordered strict enforcement against households and businesses that have not adopted rainwater harvesting, signalling a push for longer‑term water conservation measures.
