The fourth stage of the Narmada water scheme has been launched in Indore to boost the city’s supply capacity and meet projected demand up to 2055.

Indore municipal authorities have kicked off the fourth phase of the Narmada water project, aiming to expand the city’s water supply infrastructure in line with rising population forecasts. The new phase focuses on augmenting intake and conveyance facilities along the Narmada River, ensuring a steady flow of water to the urban network.

Officials say the completion of this stage will increase the city’s water availability by a margin sufficient to meet estimated consumption needs through the year 2055. The project is designed to provide uninterrupted supply for the next three decades, reducing the risk of shortages during peak demand periods.

The initiative forms part of a long‑term water security plan for Indore, with construction work accelerated to keep pace with demographic growth. Stakeholders expect the enhanced capacity to support residential, commercial, and industrial users across the city.

The fourth phase is slated for completion within the next few years, after which the expanded system will be integrated with existing pipelines and treatment plants. Local residents have welcomed the move, citing the importance of reliable water access for daily life and economic activity.

The state government has pledged continued financial and technical support, underscoring the strategic significance of the Narmada project for Madhya Pradesh’s capital region.
