IndiGo announced that from October 10 it will add direct services linking Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, with several major Indian metros, expanding the state’s air connectivity.
New Delhi, Sep 2 (ET) – Low‑cost carrier IndiGo said it will commence a series of new routes linking Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, with major Indian cities from October 10. The airline plans to operate daily flights to destinations such as Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Mumbai, aiming to boost passenger traffic from the northeastern state.
The move follows a broader push by the government and airlines to improve air connectivity in remote regions. IndiGo’s schedule will feature its Airbus A320 fleet, offering standard fare structures and the airline’s usual on‑board services.
Industry analysts view the expansion as a positive sign for tourism and business travel in Arunachal Pradesh, which has historically relied on limited flight options. The new services are expected to create ancillary employment opportunities at Itanagar Airport and stimulate local economies.
IndiGo’s spokesperson confirmed that ticket sales will open next week, with promotional fares available for early bookings. The airline also indicated that additional frequencies could be added based on demand.
The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s regional connectivity scheme, which seeks to integrate underserved airports into the national network.
