IndiGo's chief executive has ruled out any immediate fuel price hedging strategy, opting instead to evaluate such measures once the airline expands its long‑haul operations.
IndiGo, India’s largest low‑cost carrier, has announced that it will not pursue fuel price hedging at present. The decision was made by CEO Rakesh Gangwal during a recent interview with a national media outlet.
Gangwal explained that the airline’s current focus remains on strengthening its domestic network and maintaining cost competitiveness. He noted that hedging would add complexity to an already streamlined operations model.
The company plans to revisit fuel‑hedging options once it begins expanding into long‑haul routes. IndiGo’s long‑haul strategy is expected to launch in the next few years, at which point the airline will assess market conditions and risk exposure.
Industry analysts say the move reflects IndiGo’s cautious approach to financial risk management while it scales its fleet for international growth.
