The Indian Navy has inducted the indigenously built INS Samarthak to serve as a test platform for future combat technologies.

The Indian Navy has formally taken delivery of INS Samarthak, an indigenously designed and built vessel intended to act as a testbed for next‑generation warfare systems. The ship will be used to trial advanced sensors, weapons and network‑centric combat concepts under real‑world conditions.

Commissioning the platform underscores India’s push for self‑reliance in defence technology, reducing dependence on foreign suppliers and fostering domestic shipbuilding capabilities. Defence officials highlighted that INS Samarthak will provide valuable data to refine concepts that could later be incorporated into frontline warships.

Analysts expect the trials conducted on INS Samarthak to shape the navy’s future procurement strategy, accelerating the integration of cutting‑edge combat systems and enhancing overall maritime deterrence.
