India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar visited Azerbaijan in Baku, where he and President Ilham Aliyev discussed trade, energy cooperation and counter‑terrorism, marking a reset of ties after last year’s Operation Sindoor tensions.
India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Baku on Monday to meet President Ilham Aliyev and Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Bayramov. The talks focused on strengthening trade and energy cooperation, with both sides expressing a desire to elevate their bilateral relationship.
The visit comes after a period of strained ties, largely due to Azerbaijan’s close ties with Pakistan and India’s defence relationship with Armenia. The leaders agreed to set aside past differences and work toward a more robust partnership.
Counter‑terrorism was also a key agenda item. Jaishankar highlighted the importance of joint efforts to curb extremist threats in the region, while Bayramov underscored Azerbaijan’s commitment to regional security.
The meeting marked a significant step in normalising relations between the two countries, signalling a new chapter in Indo‑Azerbaijani cooperation.
