New Delhi: During the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026, Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar held a bilateral meeting with United Kingdom Prime Minister Andy Burnham. The two leaders convened on the sidelines of the summit to assess the progress of the India‑UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) that was signed earlier this year.
The discussion focused on removing remaining trade barriers, enhancing services and investment flows, and aligning regulatory standards to facilitate smoother market access for businesses on both sides. Both ministers also exchanged views on cooperation in technology, renewable energy, and capacity building in education and health sectors.
Jaishankar emphasized that a robust CETA framework is vital for sustaining the momentum of the growing India‑UK partnership, while Burnham highlighted the UK's commitment to deepening ties with India across economic and strategic domains. The meeting is expected to pave the way for a joint communiqué outlining concrete steps for implementation and future collaboration.
