Indian Railways Opens New Broad‑Gauge Tracks in Chhattisgarh, Launches Raipur Services

The Ministry of Railways inaugurated newly laid broad‑gauge sections in Chhattisgarh and flagged off fresh passenger services operating from Raipur.
Senior railway officials gathered in Raipur to commission the recently completed broad‑gauge tracks that extend across key districts of Chhattisgarh. The ceremony marked the formal opening of the new lines and the simultaneous flag‑off of several passenger trains that will originate from Raipur station.
The newly constructed sections replace older metre‑gauge routes, providing a uniform broad‑gauge network that enables faster and higher‑capacity trains. By linking previously underserved towns with the state capital, the infrastructure upgrade is expected to cut travel times and improve freight movement.
Railway authorities said the additional services will enhance regional connectivity, support local businesses and facilitate smoother movement of goods, especially from the mineral‑rich areas of the state. The launch is part of a broader push to modernise the national rail system and boost economic activity in central India.
Future phases will see further extensions of the broad‑gauge corridor, aiming to integrate Chhattisgarh more tightly with neighboring states and major freight corridors across the country.
