Union Minister Piyush Goyal announced plans to attract $200 billion in data‑centre investments over the next eight years, while setting a $30 trillion GDP target for 2047.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal told NDTV Profit that the government aims to mobilise roughly $200 billion in investments for data‑centre infrastructure over the next eight years. The push is part of a broader strategy to position India as a global hub for cloud services and digital storage.

The proposed inflow is expected to spur the construction of hundreds of new data‑centres, create tens of thousands of skilled jobs and reduce reliance on foreign hosting facilities. Officials say the investment will be channelled through public‑private partnerships, tax incentives and streamlined regulatory approvals.

Alongside the data‑centre drive, Goyal reiterated the government’s long‑term economic goal of reaching a $30 trillion gross domestic product by 2047, coinciding with the country’s 100‑year independence anniversary. Achieving that level of growth will require sustained capital formation, higher productivity and continued reforms across sectors.

Analysts note that while the targets are ambitious, they align with India’s expanding digital economy and the global surge in demand for data processing capacity. The success of the plan will hinge on policy consistency, infrastructure readiness and the ability to attract foreign and domestic investors alike.
